The Sixties Scoop Survivor Program

Anishnabeg Outreach has launched the Sixties Scoop Survivor Program, designed to support First Nations, Inuit, and Métis community members who were impacted by the devastating effects of the Sixties Scoop. This program is dedicated to helping survivors regain lost familial ties, re-establish their cultural identity, and access mental health resources.

Regaining Familial Connections

One of the primary goals of our program is to assist survivors in finding lost family connections. This will be explored through DNA testing services, coupled with access to ancestry accounts to help trace family lineage. Additionally, we will utilize publicly accessible archives from the Government of Canada to explore family lineage.

Accessing Mental Health Resources

We understand the importance of mental health in the healing journey of survivors. Through our program, you will have access to our mental health management software, AONest. It is a self-guided software system for mental health management and outcomes. AONest helps individuals navigate their mental health concerns and build emotional resilience independently.

Re-establishing Cultural Ties

For many survivors, the Sixties Scoop resulted in a loss of cultural identity. Our program aims to help individuals reconnect with their Indigenous culture through a variety of initiatives. We will provide connections to elders, Indigenous Reserves, and cultural events in the area. AO also hosts several cultural programs including our beading workshops, ribbon workshops, teaching & healing lodges, community fires and more. These programs are designed to foster community bonding and connection to other Indigenous folks, providing a sense of belonging and cultural enrichment.
